Understanding assets in SGNL

Learn how SGNL organizes the links, QR codes, PDFs, and other things you share.

An asset is the core object in SGNL.

Each asset represents something you intend to share and track, no matter which tool created it.

What information does an asset contain?

An asset stores the sharing object, its destination, the tracked link, and the analytics context that explains how it performs.

  • Asset name.
  • Asset type.
  • Destination.
  • Tracked link.
  • QR code where relevant.
  • Sharing channel and placement name.
  • Analytics and status.
  • Creation and update dates.

PDF assets may also store the uploaded file, Smart Preview settings, and PDF engagement metrics.

What happens when I edit or delete an asset?

Changes affect future visitors. Historical analytics usually remain connected to the asset unless the product clearly says otherwise.

Deleting an asset can remove the active destination or uploaded file. For PDF assets, the file itself may be permanently removed from storage while historical records follow the applicable retention policy.

Important

Before deletion, SGNL shows what will stop working so you can avoid breaking active links or printed QR codes by mistake.
