How to Measure a Campaign Across QR Codes, Links, PDFs and WhatsApp
Create a cross-asset measurement model for campaigns that use QR codes, links, PDFs and WhatsApp together.
Part of SGNL's Marketing Intelligence resources for businesses that want to understand what happens after they share links, QR codes, PDFs and review requests.
Use the campaign as the organising unit
A campaign can contain a printed QR code, a direct link, a tracked PDF and a WhatsApp entry point. Reporting only on each asset separately hides how the pieces work together. Give the campaign a shared name and preserve the source, placement and asset type as separate dimensions.
Keep asset identity consistent
Use a naming convention that records campaign, source, placement and version. For example, a brochure QR and a brochure PDF should be distinguishable while still belonging to the same campaign. Consistency reduces duplicate assets and makes later comparisons possible.
Map the journey
Decide which actions are common across assets and which are asset-specific. A QR scan, link click, PDF view and WhatsApp conversation may all be entry events, followed by a shared enquiry or booking outcome. Document what can be directly attributed and what remains directional.
Report at two levels
Use the campaign view to answer whether the initiative worked, then use the asset view to decide which placement or format deserves improvement. This preserves detail without making the business owner assemble the story from unrelated dashboards.
Avoid false precision
Cross-asset reports should disclose different intent, technical measurement and offline conversion gaps. A PDF view and a WhatsApp conversation are not interchangeable events. Combine them only for a clearly defined campaign question and retain the underlying asset-level data.
FAQ
Why measure a campaign instead of each QR code?
The campaign view connects several assets and placements to one business goal while the asset view still explains which component performed best.
Can QR, PDF and WhatsApp events be combined?
They can be grouped under a campaign, but each event should retain its type and measurement limits rather than being treated as identical activity.
What should every asset include?
At minimum, use a clear campaign, source or placement identity and a destination or event definition that matches the campaign goal.
